My wife, Annabel, was in for a wee operation (a parotidectomy) yesterday and she's just managed to escape the hospital this evening. The operation was a complete success with no sign of any nasty after-effects (the major risk with a parotidectomy is damage to the facial nerve which gives the appearance of having had a stroke and can be permanent!) and she's now at home, convalescing for the next couple of weeks. Here's one of the piccies I uploaded to Flickr showing off the cool scar!

OUCH. Hope she gets well fast Graeme. Looks like a painful one.
Oh my goodness that's impressive!
So glad you're ok, A! We've been thinking of you!
Eeep!
I had no idea it would be that... well, big.
Glad to hear it went well.

Yikes - Hopefully things aren't too sore and I do hope you're making the most of morning TV and putting your feet up!
Thinking of you lots

I have to have a parotidectomy on wednesday! Did this leave a huge scar? How long did it take for her to recover?
You are very brave for posting this to help the rest of us.
I hope you have recovered and are well.
I'm having to have this next wednesday, I'm only 19 and I'm so scared, is there anythin I should know? I dont really know anythin bout whats going to happen
Since a few folks are finding this post via Google now, I figured a wee followup was in order. Annabel made a very quick recovery and was back at work within a couple of weeks. Nearly 3 years later, there's a slight scar, but it's barely visible as it follows the line of her jaw.
I had the same surgery done. Although things are improving, I'm still really numb. How long did it take for the numbness to go away. It looks like I've had a mini stroke, although my doc said there was no damage to the nerves, but it could take as long as 8 mths to go back to norm.
