Who am I?

Hi, I’m Graeme and these are my notes, from my messy desk. I started this blog because Google proved to be more useful at finding content than anything else I’ve used.

So I started adding my own content in the hopes that Google would index it and allow me to find things again in the future.

It works.

You can find out more about me here, and you should follow me on Twitter here.

Keeping up

You can automatically receive new content here by subscribing to the “Blog RSS” (link below). This is the easiest way to keep up with what I write here.  See this BBC article for a good introduction on RSS and keeping up with the goings on of the Internet more easily.

Bride of Frankenstein

Bride of FrankensteinMy wife, Annabel, was in for a wee operation (a parotidectomy) yesterday and she's just managed to escape the hospital this evening. The operation was a complete success with no sign of any nasty after-effects (the major risk with a parotidectomy is damage to the facial nerve which gives the appearance of having had a stroke and can be permanent!) and she's now at home, convalescing for the next couple of weeks.

Here's one of the piccies I uploaded to Flickr showing off the cool scar!

OUCH. Hope she gets well fast Graeme. Looks like a painful one.

Yikes - Hopefully things aren't too sore and I do hope you're making the most of morning TV and putting your feet up!

Thinking of you lots

I have to have a parotidectomy on wednesday! Did this leave a huge scar? How long did it take for her to recover?

You are very brave for posting this to help the rest of us.
I hope you have recovered and are well.

Since a few folks are finding this post via Google now, I figured a wee followup was in order. Annabel made a very quick recovery and was back at work within a couple of weeks. Nearly 3 years later, there's a slight scar, but it's barely visible as it follows the line of her jaw.

I had the same surgery done. Although things are improving, I'm still really numb. How long did it take for the numbness to go away. It looks like I've had a mini stroke, although my doc said there was no damage to the nerves, but it could take as long as 8 mths to go back to norm.
