Who am I?

Hi, I’m Graeme and these are my notes, from my messy desk. I started this blog because Google proved to be more useful at finding content than anything else I’ve used.

So I started adding my own content in the hopes that Google would index it and allow me to find things again in the future.

It works.

You can find out more about me here, and you should follow me on Twitter here.

Keeping up

You can automatically receive new content here by subscribing to the “Blog RSS” (link below). This is the easiest way to keep up with what I write here.  See this BBC article for a good introduction on RSS and keeping up with the goings on of the Internet more easily.

The joys of having a willing subject

Fortune Teller I've decided that one of the best things about having kids is that now I've got a willing subject for taking photographs. While his mummy was off getting a haircut on Saturday morning, we both decided it would be a great idea to play around with the camera and an off-camera flash.

I'm rather pleased with the outcome of a few of these shots -- click on the image to be taken through to a larger size and a few other shots. I've had lots of comments about this one being creepy or scary, which I don't *quite* get. I think it looks really cute and he's just being *interested* in the flash. (In reality he's sitting on his rug in the living room on a Saturday morning, trying to lean forward and grab the slave flash unit (a Canon SpeedLite 420EX) sitting on the floor in front of him while I'm firing off shots around him.

Anyway, just to prove I can talk about things other than git. :-)

Your baby is really cute! Congratulations!
Does this photo has any alteration? It's quite dark behind him for a saturday morning (unless the sun hasn't came out yet)...

@Sergio: The only alterations were to turn it to black & white, and crop a little.

The effect was achieved by balancing the off-camera flash against the ambient light so that he was the only object illuminated.
